Starting with Xcode 4.3 - you must now manually install command line tools from Xcode menu Preferences Downloads. Alternatively, there are stand-alone installation packages both for Mountain Lion (10.8) and for Mavericks (10.9). in your user space in such a way that it can be easily removed later, download and run the mac-fortran.sh
script from the course website by opening a terminal and executingThis will download and unpack a new version of
gfortran
, putting it into a new directory: ~/gfortran
.It will also put a Makevars
file into your ~/.R
directory so that R knows where to look when it wants gfortran

installation, simply remove the ~/gfortran
